Rock Wool Production Hot Air Furnace — Vietnam

Special Hot Air Furnace for Rock Wool Production in Vietnam

Meibao supplied a special hot air furnace system for a rock wool production project in Vietnam.

The system recovers and combusts cupola off-gas, uses the recovered heat to preheat cupola combustion air and provides heat for the rock wool curing oven. It connects two major heating sections of the rock wool production line through one integrated heat-recovery system.

Project Overview

Rock wool production has two important heat-demand sections: the cupola and the curing oven.

The cupola generates high-temperature off-gas containing recoverable heat and combustible components. The system collects and combusts this off-gas, then transfers the recovered heat through the heat-exchange system.

Part of the recovered heat is used to preheat the combustion air entering the cupola. The outlet temperature of the preheated air is above 450°C and can reach a maximum of 600°C.

The recovered heat also supports the thermal requirements of the curing oven. This arrangement integrates cupola off-gas utilization, combustion-air preheating and curing-oven heating.

Process Description

1. Cupola Off-Gas Collection

Off-gas generated by the rock wool cupola is collected through the corresponding duct system.

The collected gas becomes a recoverable heat and fuel source for the hot air furnace system.

2. Off-Gas Combustion

Combustible components in the cupola off-gas undergo controlled combustion inside the furnace system.

This combustion process releases the remaining chemical energy in the off-gas and produces high-temperature gas for heat recovery.

3. Heat Recovery

The high-temperature gas enters the heat-recovery and heat-exchange section.

Heat from the gas is transferred to the cupola combustion air and to the hot-air system serving the curing oven.

4. Cupola Combustion-Air Preheating

Ambient combustion air enters the heat exchanger and absorbs heat from the recovered high-temperature gas.

The preheated-air outlet temperature is above 450°C and can reach a maximum of 600°C before the air enters the cupola.

Preheated combustion air improves the thermal conditions inside the cupola and reduces supplementary energy demand.

5. Curing-Oven Heat Supply

The heat-recovery system also provides process heat for the rock wool curing oven.

The curing oven uses the supplied hot air to complete the heating and curing of the formed rock wool products.

6. Online Dust Cleaning

The heat-exchange system is equipped with an online dust-cleaning arrangement.

Deposited dust can be removed during system operation, supporting the airflow and heat-transfer conditions of the heat exchanger.

7. Monitoring and Control

The control system coordinates off-gas combustion, combustion-air supply, heat recovery, temperature monitoring and curing-oven heat delivery.

Main Technical Characteristics

Cupola Off-Gas Recovery

The system collects and uses cupola off-gas as a recoverable heat and combustion source.

Two Heating Applications

Recovered heat is used for both cupola combustion-air preheating and curing-oven heating.

High Combustion-Air Temperature

The preheated-air outlet temperature is above 450°C and can reach up to 600°C.

Multiple Auxiliary Fuel Configurations

The furnace series can be configured for coal, biomass, natural gas or fuel oil according to the selected auxiliary combustion system.

Online Dust Cleaning

The heat-exchange section can be cleaned online to maintain airflow and heat-transfer conditions.

Integrated Process Control

Off-gas combustion, heat recovery, combustion-air preheating and curing-oven heat supply are coordinated through one control system.

Role in Rock Wool Production

Preheating cupola combustion air improves the thermal input to the melting process. It also reduces the supplementary energy and liquid-oxygen demand required to maintain cupola operating conditions.

The curing oven is another major heat consumer in the rock wool production line. Integrating the curing-oven heat demand with cupola off-gas recovery allows the recovered energy to be used in more than one production section.

International Application Experience

In addition to the Vietnam project, Meibao has supplied rock wool production heating systems to projects in other international markets.

These projects demonstrate Meibao’s ability to integrate cupola off-gas recovery, combustion-air preheating and curing-oven heating into different rock wool production-line layouts.

Technology Background

The special hot air furnace for rock wool production incorporates multiple patented technologies.

The equipment was developed around the energy requirements of the cupola and curing oven, covering off-gas recovery, combustion, heat exchange, online cleaning and automatic control.
